Matzger Workshop Heats up Cool Phoenix

Phoenix and Tuscon area skaters swooped down on the Castles and Coasters parking lot for two days of unbelievably cool skating pickins' in the desert. Never did the mercury climb higher than 80 degrees, allowing skaters to practice away to their heart's content.

Ski Pro on Camelback hosted the Friday evening gathering, where new video was previewed while good grub was had. The participants then became the budding talent of their own video while being filmed during the workshop.

Carvaciousness was the operational mode throughout. Skaters saw and felt how closing off their skate angle while pushing yielded surprising new speed for straightaways, crossovers, and for Sunday's opus: the double push.

Stubborn persistence bore fruit. After hours and hours of hard work miracles began to happen like a string of firecrackers. Balance was found, gravity was harnessed, and carvaciousness was acheived with startling frequency.

The whole spectrum made gains. No matter what their starting and finishing point, all vowed to keep working the drills behind the scenes to make it all work when it counts. And Arizona skaters know how to work it when it counts.

Salomon skates, TWINCAM bearings, Explore wheels, Wigwam socks, Transpack, Raymond Verdaguer designs, and Bobward Flynn all made possible a Christmas in April.
