Skaters from New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Michigan, California, and France proved themselves to be highly energetic, motivated, and focused during the Access to Speed Workshop in New York City's Central Park, August 18-20, 2000.

Participants learned how to identify and isolate the components of the skating stroke, practicing each piece before putting it all together and zooming around the track by the Great Lawn.

From within and without, there was overwhelming interest in the course. For example, when one team finished their time trial, two nearby volleyball teams burst out into applause for the brave, winded souls.

"I hardly said a word the whole time to Paul," confessed Val a little after the last wheel on her skates had finally come to a stop,"and then all of a sudden there we were on the same team, and it was so cool how it all came together."

Some were just plain overcome by the 'coming together' spirit. "I can't believe that you got us to do the double push," wrote Linda. "It was like all of a sudden a light came on and it all came together. Now I'm like a kid with a new toy, I can't wait to get out there and play with it." "It felt like a vacation," said Jenny, who didn't want it to end. She thought it was incredibly cool to hang out with a bunch of people like herself who totally got into breaking everything down and analyzing it.

The workshop was sponsored in a such big way by Transpack, Explore, Salomon, TWINCAM, Wigwam, and PowerBar.
