Two dozen studious skaters ran themselves through the mill and still graduated magna cum laude from the Access to Speed Workshop in Irvine, California, October 18-20. SoCal skaters good and aplenty hosted out of towners and out-of-staters in Roooger Olson's backyard.

Participants careened around the smooth-as-glass parking lot at the University of California-Irvine for going on 16 hours. Initially information starved, minds soon overflowed with terabytes of inline law and lore.

Comic relief was always provided by local loon Rog, who clucked and cooed with delight at seeing so many avid skaters working in such coordinated fashion. Whether starting from scratch or drawing on years of education, skate scholars put on a show of their newfound skills to themselves and to other onlookers during videotaping sessions or relay races.

School spirit soared most favorably high as energy levels rallied for the real fun of the colorfully competitive stage race on Sunday afternoon. Teams zoomed around the track in packs and put their newly acquired knowledge to the test against the clock. Drama unfolded faster than a new series sweep of soaps, all captured in mini-DV by skatecentral skate guru Eddy and audio visual expert Randy

The workshop owes thanks to generous endowments from Salomon, TWINCAM, Explore, Transpack, Wigwam, Raymond Verdaguer, and Bobward Flynn.
