![]() Skaters, skaters and more skaters came to Gifu, Japan to brush up on skating technique one week before the big Nagarawa Cup. Over 35 were on hand to hungrily devour a packed and stacked cirriculum that challenged skaters with each and every exercise. The kids had a blast, managing to treat the workshop like the best interactive video game ever. Young adults were studious but knew how to smile, as did more seasoned skaters who fed off the collective energy like batteries taking charge. Yoga on skates got a new start with fresh converts practicing their poses while rolling! The Japanese skaters do not shy from a challenge. There were prom kings and beauty queens aplenty, faces far too beautiful and heads far too smart not to wear a helmet. Not to worry. Next time the workshop will charge a premium price with a steep discount for wearing a brain bucket! So invest in your future now. There's so much inner beauty in helmet head. Skaters stormed through the classic stroke, crossovers, and the double push before jumping on the race wagon. 7 randomly selected teams of 5 skaters each raced team time trial style for three laps and turned in incredibly close times. Then the whole group came to the line for a five lap race that challenged everybody to apply workshop ideas during competitive skating. Keeping form, even when tired, means medals to all! Thanks to Salomon, TWINCAM, Explore, Transpack, Wigwam, Bobward, Barrieward, and Raymond for sponsoring and rounding out such a truly amazing Access to Speed workshop tour in 2002. |
