Motor City Skaters Find New Fuel

Giant evolutionary leaps in the history of skating took place with staccato-like frequency as eager skaters soaked up terabytes of inline information at the Eddy Matzger Access to Speed Workshop in Dearborn, MI, May 31 - June 2, 2002.

Some came green and others more steeped but far from jaded. All the techniques were wildly sopped up by all and the rise in skate proficiency over the course of the weekend was nothing short of meteoric.

When things clicked skaters let it show with giant whoops and screams that kept energy levels at all time highs. Participants practiced straightaways, crossovers, the double push, passing, and pack skating with true fundamentalist fervor.

Learning was a true team effort. As many of the drills were interactive or practiced in pairs, there was plenty of opportunity for bonding and sharing of information and encouragement. The Access to Speed Workshop was spoiled rotten by Dave Pawlak and his minions, as well as by sponsors Salomon, TWINCAM, Explore, Transpack, Wigwam, Raymond Verdaguer, and Bobward Flynn.
