Washington Area Roadskaters welcomed the Access to Speed Workshop to the District of Colombia August 20-22, 1999, and showed everybody a good time.

Stuart Austin met instructor Eddy Matzger at the National Airport and skated him across the Potomac to meet other workshop participants for an evening social skate and chalk talk near the Capitol steps.

Skaters congregated early Saturday for a full day of skating fun. Nearly two dozen eager participants gave their all as they dedicated themselves to drills emphasizing balance, alignment, flexibility, and long, powerful strokes.

Individual epiphanies of serious magnitude occurred like earthquakes throughout the weekend. Wheels turned literally and figuratively as tremendous strides were made in unlocking the myriad of technical secrets offered up at the Access to Speed Workhsop.

"I've never had a weekend where I learned so much and had so much fun at the same time!" wrote one of the access to speed graduates. "Thanks for all the praise, reassurance, and constructive comments. It's all still swimming around in my head trying to force me to get out there and start practicing."

The Access to Speed workshop was hugely enhanced by TWINCAM bearings, Explore wheels, Salomon skates, PowerBar, Transpack, Wigwam socks, and Raymond Verdaguer.
