Middlesex College in historic Bedford, MA played host to the John and Mary Wardley Access to Speed Workshop, June 15-17, 2001. Multiple levels of lots served as the classroom for multiple levels of skaters who carved their way into the historical record with more effective pushes. Eddy Matzger relished his role as agent of rapid change. Students were exposed to his progressions and literally did just that. Got better! Every skater shared an interactive approach to learning, frequently hipping and bopping together for stationary exercises on the grass as well as rolling drills on the blacktop. You should have seen participants take eachother for whirls! The workshop was far from just a solipsismic affair. Though the real objective may have been to improve one's own skating, the road was traveled together. Pairs, trios, and even some quartets, quintets and sextets worked collaboratively, peppered by frequent bouts of levity. And oh the gravity cyclones too! Persistence was rewarded with improved body kinetic. Whether it was your first time (Bobby), fourth time (Robin), or sixth time (His and Her Wardliness), there was still plenty of meat left on the bone to make that skater engine purr a little faster. Awesome "wet foods" like TWINCAM bearings, Explore wheels, Salomon palm-sliders, Transpack schwag, Wigwam socks, and Raymond Verdaguer wearable art were hungrily consumed by workshop attendees. Can THAT and stock it on YOUR shelves! skatecentral |
