An happy menagerie of skaters convened on the Lake Travis High School marching band practice patch and learned the ropes of classic skating, crossovers, and the double push at the Access to Speed Workshop in Austin, Texas, March 22-24, 2002.

The place was primed for skaters of all different strokes. Indoor skaters got in the spirit of the outdoors, and outdoor rollers stepped-up their agility and footspeed as if they were indoors.

Morning temps in the low 60's encouraged everybody to put their bodies in motion, and afternoons in the 70's kept engines revving without overheating. With all the drills and games, people even forgot their bodies were sore.

While meatballs were baking, new skaters were in the making. A 5-step approach helped skaters get the juices flowing and helped transform their skating into case studies in fluid dynamics. Grace and finesse came pouring out of bodies with better pressure than a filling station.

Everybody possessed a rare form of intensely healthy skating competitiveness, which helped fuel some very exciting and exceedingly evenly matched team time trial battles.

Some skaters were spurred on to continuously improve simply by the frustration not immediately being able to execute what the mind saw and understood. However all skaters enjoyed their own little skating triumphs throughout the weekend. That is not to say that s
