Midsummer heat in spring was no deterrent for 18 super-motivated skaters at the Eddy Matzger "Access to Speed" Workshop, March 12-14, 1999, in Atlanta, GA.

Freestyle aficionados Paul and Cindy secured the expansive Georgia Tech parking deck for a full weekend of skating, strengthening, and strategizing. Skaters worked and played on their skates for eight hours each day, meeting back at Paul and Cindy's for personalized videotape analysis.

The transfomation each skater underwent was dramatic, sometimes stunning. Great, huge hiccups of progress replaced slow steady progress as Eddy unveiled eleven years of skating experience in two and a half days. The bombardment of information was steady but survivable. Most vowed to devote a few minutes prior to each future skate workout to the challenging drills and exercises encountered over the weekend.

The group dynamic was greatly aided by the boundless energy of youngsters, old pros who could still learn new tricks, and fitness skaters who inspired everybody with their great leaps of visible progress. Working in a big bunch gave everybody the courage to try things they never before had thought possible. Way to go y'alls'!
