Derek Downing and Fourth Lacey had an all out battle for this final corner! Derek had just been passed by Fourth the turn before, and took a couple extra strides nearing the end of the straightaway to give him more speed going into the final turn.

This clip starts where Derek, with his greater momentum, is about to make contact with Fourth at the beginning of the turn. At this point Derek had it all in his favor, as his inside position and greater weight allowed him to "nudge" Fourth out wider than he had originally aimed.

Fourth had the advantage of better grip than the heavier Downing, and was able to recover and slip back inside Derek with timely crossovers, as Derek stayed in a low stance almost the whole turn.

Fourth kept his legs churning even when it got hard to skate at all!
