The first stop for the National Points Curcuit, the United Skates Open in Philadephia offered a prize purse of $25,000, and that brought out most of the top skaters and teams in the nation. Verducci was there with Chad Hedrick, Derek Downing, Keith Turner, Joe Flescher, and a few other speedsters. EC Beast came out in force as well, with Forth Lacey as the top gun, and Stephen Carter, Jason Sepulveda and others in strong support.

The pro ladies fields were strong as well with Verducci's Julie Glass, Jessica Smith and others. Teresa Cliff and Michele Bizeau had strong showings racing independently against a strong pack. There was also a good turnout for the Age Groups and the Masters categories, Making for some fast exciting racing all weekend long.

Held in a horse racing track parking lot, the races were to all be run on Satuday the 12th, but rain eventually forced the races to be halted about halfway through the program. Athletes gathered at a hotel and voted to continue racing the next day.

While Chad and his gang brawled all weekend with Forth and his, Julie and her crew had a serious battle with Teresa and Michele! The racing was so fast and exciting! It's a pity that there couldn't have been a larger crowd. There was support from friends and family, but this is just the type of racing that everyone should have the chance to see!
