Bandit riding was your only choice if you didn't sign up early, because they sold out of chips for the National Capitol Inline Marathon in Ottawa, Canada, on May 12, 2002! The race was a tremendous interval workout with some steady aneaerobic threshold work later on, punctuated with a surge or two before the final sprint!

Here's how the race weekend was reported in the Ottawa Citizen on Monday, May 13, 2002:

"Eddy Matzger of Berkeley, California, is not only a champion in-line skater, but also an amateur video enthusiast, who used a tiny hand-held camera to film his journey to victory through the MDS Nordion 10-kilometre Saturday night.

'I got about eight minutes of film in 16 minutes of racing,' he said. "There was a lot of heavy breathing down time.

Matzger, 34, also won Sunday's marathon race.

His mission is to get as many people on skates as possible."
