TWINCAM's Eddy Matzger excised an elite international field of challengers with clinical precision at Empire Speed's New York City 100K Championships, September 25, 2004, in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. He outsprinted French marathon star Phillipe Boulard and Colombian Luis-Carlos Meija to end a classic battle between long-distance giants.

On the women's side, K2/Empire's pre-race favorite Kelly Martinez tumbled on the downhill, but fellow Colombian and decorated gold medalist Briggyette Mendez stepped up cooly and laid claim to a race that tests the power of the body and mind. Canadian Martine Charbonneau and American Kimberley Perkins rounded out the top three with panache and power.

Try it for yourself! Come back year after year to beat your demons and savor your hard work. You too can rise to the challenge and skate nineteen 3.1 mile rollercoaster loops at Prospect Park, because although pain may become your friend, at least loneliness along the route is not an option!

There's always a huge cluster of people at the start/finish to look forward to seeing every time around; joggers and bikers in the recreation lane to cheer you on, fitness walkers and strollers with dogs to spur you to ever greater speeds, and perhaps the best part, castanet-shaking flashers and mooners at the top of the hill! Just ask Eddy Matzger or Bruce Mooney, the first and the last finishers of a blockbuster 2004 edition.
