Empire Speed put on a heckuva race in Brooklyn's Prospect Park, with all the built-in makings of a TV reality show. Nothing like loads of blood, sweat and tears to capture the attention and imagination of participants and spectators alike.

Julie Glass (Powerslide) came to town looking lean and happy and fresh off of a huge win at the Duluth Northshore Marathon, and with her delightful countenance and amazing power showed why she is America's freshest new Olympic hopeful.

An international field assembled to try contest the title, and the drama that ensued could have captured the top TV reality show ratings of all time!

A strong contingent of Canadians and other imports complemented a fine showing of local, regional and national talent to make for a zesty skating field.

The Prospect Park course is intimate, yet can punch you in the gut. A hill will test your fortitude every lap. Half of the loop is freshly repaved, now that's bliss.

Julie Glass outsprinted Jilleanne Rookard for the 100K title, while Phillipe Boulard (2nd in 2002) attacked relentlessly and shook Eddy Matzger in the last lap for the big win. In a separate ceremony Julie and Eddy stood atop the podium as 2003 100K National Champions and held up their silver Thanksgiving turkey platters. Now Phil, get used to it!

A democratic race, Empire Speed recognized all the age and class winners for their awesome accomplishments. Way to show the love!!!
