Moorea is one gorgeous island from the air. When Charles Darwin sailed by in his Beagle, he saw how islands slowly sunk and left a fringing reef which soon was nothing more than a coral atoll with a huge lagoon in the center. Moorea's pretty young as far as these things go. See how many narrow passes, or breaks in the reef there are. It was in one of these openings that tropical storm Frank slammed a ferry onto the reef during the height of the gale. That's why the Minister of Transportation said "No go" when it came our turn to board the ferry.
