What better place to enjoy inline skating's resurgence than at the Great River Roll, Saturday July 29, 2000, in Minneapolis, MN? Nearly 700 people skated with delight along the mighty Mississippi River in the 2nd annual event that featured fun and one of the largest fields in American racing.

When skaters came on Friday to pick up their numbers and goody bags, they were also treated to a tent full of sponsor booths stocked with knowledgeable people and great product. Take the ice cream stand for example; how could you refuse smiling people giving away cones of many flavors?

With a wireless microphone, Eddy Matzger hooked into a sound system provided by Gaylin Morris, the Voice of Skating, and dispensed skating tips to the masses, who gathered under the expo tent and hungrily absorbed information that would serve them well on the morrow.

And what a phenomenal day for racing it was. Cool and clear and contagious excitement in the air. A course as scenic as she comes, with two exciting river crossings, shady esplanades along the river shore, and even a hilly punch up the escarpment to the start/finish at the Old Arch Bridge.

The event was so fun because of the sheer number of participants and the diversity of the bunch. Everybody showed up -- from the high-and-mighty Muse brothers to good ol' down-to-earth Bob.

Along with the Northshore Marathon, the New York Marathon, and Athens to Atlanta, this is most definitely one to mark on your calendar for all time. Thanks to Michelle and her minions for putting together such a quality event that sent everybody home with huge smiles on their faces.
